Equips

(This post will be updated upon receiving additional information and corrections)

To avoid confusion we will refer to the "stars" as rank and the color of the equipment's name as the grade (when you hatch a Legendary pet a system announcement will say that you hatched a pet of Legendary rank).

EQUIPMENT GRADE

There are seven possible grades of an equipment in AOT and can be determined by the color of the equipment's name (Regular, GoodSuperiorExcellentPerfectLegendaryDivine). The grade determine the base stats that the equipment will have meaning the stats of the equipment before any enhancing.

There are other factors that will affect the said stats are the Equipment's Level (see level requirement) and the Enhancement Level (+8 on the picture). So if you want to increase the white stats simply enhance it or use Grade Enhancement on your equipment.

EQUIPMENT RANK

You can determine the rank of an equipment if you refer to it's stars. So far we've only seen an equipment of nine stars or Rank 9 (from a Game Master's equipment or from our equipment during the Prologue).

The rank will determine the base values of the blue options. The higher the rank the higher the value of the blue options. Besides the rank the other things that will affect the value of the blue options are the equipment's level, equipment class (Crusader, Mage, Berserker,Legionnaire) and sometimes if you are lucky enough you will have an equipment whose blue options value will be higher compared to an equipment of the same class, level, and rank.

There is only one way of increasing your equipment's rank and blue options and that is via Rank Enhancement.

Tips: Choosing the right options for you.

It doesn't mean that the grade or rank of a weapon is high that it is the ideal weapon for you, a common mistake of some people is choosing rank over the option. Some choose a 6-star equipment with crappy stats (for example an armor with Frost Def, Shadow Def, Crit Resistance, Physical Resistance) over a 5-star armor with good stats (Physical Def, Magical Def etc.). The reason for choosing Magical Def or Physical Def over the Elemental Defenses is that no matter the nature of the Elemental Attack (Frost, Fire, Shadow, etc.), you will still have a defense against it whether it's magical or physical.

For example if you battle a group of monsters having high Physical Frost Attack along with some monsters having high Magical Shadow Attack and all you have on your armor is mostly Frost Defense then you will be like paper to the monsters with the Shadow Attack. However if you have Magical and Physical Defense instead of just the Elemental Defenses you will be good on handling both attacks. This also applies when battling against other players.

You should also consider the blue options of your weapon. Generally the best options of a weapon is: Minimum Magic/Physical AttackMaximum Magic/Physical AttackCritical Percentage %Critical Damage/Magical Damage/Physical Damage, coupled with your major Elemental Attack or the element of your Divine Skill or highest damaging attack.

ADDITIONAL ATTRIBUTES

Unlike the main attribute of your equipment, the additional attributes are not readily available on your equipment so you have to do a little work to obtain them. They will provide, like what the name suggests, additional attributes to your equipment and thus to your character which will help a lot during instances, pvp, quests, etc.

These are the additional attributes that we know as of now:

-Bonus Attributes (Gems and Sockets)
-Holy Soul
-Equipment Signature
-Set Bonus Attribute

1. BONUS ATTRIBUTES (Gems and Sockets)

Gems inlaid within sockets and the Holy Soul will give bonus attributes to your equipment which will help a lot provided being done and being done correctly.

1.1 Socketing your Equipment

Drilling your equipment will provide socket for gems to be inlaid which will provide the bonus attributes to your equip. To drill a socket on your equipment you need a Novice Spinel (or Apprentice, Journeyman),  go to the Main City and look for Sarbanes, click Sarbanes > click Drill Equipment. You can drill up to three sockets on each equipment.

Our friend, Sarbanes.

Every once in a while you will obtain a coloured socket (RedBlueYellow) from the normal White Socket. This happens by chance and should be a reason for you to be happy. My explanation for that will come later.

1.2 Gems

Gems will provide the bonus attributes to your equipment when inlaid. There are a lot of gems to choose from so choose wisely. Level 1 gems provide a bit bonus attributes, Level 2 gems gives higher bonus attributes and obviously Level 3 gems provide the highest bonus attribute.

When you have the gems you prefer, drilled sockets, and a Socket Rock all you need to do is to go to our friend Sarbanes and click him > click Inlay Gems.

Note: You can buy gems from Sarbanes himself, the Mall, or from other players. Bosses and monsters on instances drop gems too.

Note: Equipment will be bound to you if inlaid with BOUND gems, if you want to trade a particular equipment with gems just take out all the bound gems by using a Extraction Scroll.

Note: To obtain gems of a higher level all you need is 5 gems of the same level and having the same attributes and a Gem Fusion scroll. Just go to Sabanes to do the process.

1.3 Coloured Sockets and Coloured Gems

Remember the coloured sockets that I mentioned above, you should be happy to obtain them especially when it is in your weapon. When I first asked other players about the coloured sockets one of them said the colour will determine the colour of the glow of your weapon while some have no idea at all so I experimented on them which cost me a lot of gold and crystals. On how much you wouldn’t want to know. You should be happy on having them for their real effect is that they will maximize the bonus attribute provided by your gem when you have the proper gem for the colour of the socket.

To obtain the proper gem all you need to do is dye them (ready your golds/crystals). To do this you need to have a Dye > go to Sarbanes > click Dye Gems > then put the gem you want to dye. The resulting colour is by random so there is no saying on what you will get.

Dyed red and you’ll have a Ruby, dyed yellow and you’ll have a Topaz, dyed blue and you’ll have a Sapphire (my best guess because I have not gotten one yet). Inlaid within a socket of the same colour you’ll get a maximize bonus attribute like what is shown at the image below of my temporary weapon.

A normal socketing.

A perfect socketing.Yellow to yellow.

And when you inlaid a coloured gem to a socket of the same colour a system announcement will appear that you achieved a Perfect Inlay like what happened to mine so everyone can see it (facepalm).

Red Socket | Ruby
Yellow Socket | Topaz
Blue Socket | Sapphire(?)

Note: It is best to dye your gems when it is already level 3 because if you dyed yours at level 1 it might mean that you have to dye all 5 of them to obtain a level 2 gem of the same colour. I dyed my gems just to experiment. ^.^

Note: You might say that this will only provide a small amount of additional attribute but remember the gems on the example are a level 1 Topaz.. Just imagine the effect of a level 3 Topaz with additional Magical Attack on a Yellow socket.

2. HOLY SOUL

The equipment’s Holy Soul is dependent on the equipment’s number of gems inlaid. Once you have three sockets on your equipment with gems inlaid you can now activate the Holy Soul of your equipment. This will provide another bonus attribute for your equipment, sort of a bonus of the bonuses.

To activate the Holy Soul of your equip all you need to have is a Divine Spinel then go to our friend Sarbanes > click Activate Soul.

The Holy Soul you will get is by random; I’ve seen mage weapons having Holy Soul:  Physical Attack which sucks being that mages need magical attack but no need to worry you can redo the whole process if you happen to have a similar fate.

Note: The Holy Soul will be inactivated if you take out even a single gem from the equipment. It will be reactivated if you inlay a gem again on the empty socket.

2.1  Gem Bonus

The gem bonus of your Holy Souly will depend on the level of the gems you inlaid to your equip. For example on my weapon has two Level 3 Gems and one Level 1 gem. Below is the allocation of Gem Bonuses.

Level 1 Gem = 15%
Level 2 Gem = 30%
Level 3 Gem = 45%

So my weapon should have a +105% Gem Bonus.

What does it mean?

It means that my weapon will get a bonus of Maximum Magic Attack equal to the Maximum Magic Attack from the blue options which is +48 and a Gem Bonus of 105%  of +48 which +50.4 thus equaling to +98.4 or +98.

So we can say if I inlaid a Lvl 3 Critical Rate gem my Gem Bonus will be +135%. That means my weapon would have a Holy Soul: MAgic Attack (MATK) +113(+135% Gem Bonus)!

3. EQUIPMENT SIGNATURE

The signature provides another additional attribute to your equipment. To have your signature you’ll need an Engraving Knife > go to Sabanes > Engrave Equipment.

There is no saying what attribute you will get but if you'll get something that you think is useless you can re-engrave it.

Note: The equipment’s Signature is like having your name on your weapon, this means that you can no longer trade a weapon once signed.

4. SET BONUS ATTRIBUTES

You can obtain bonus attributes by having a set of equipment (Tidal set, Coral set, Plunder set, etc.). If the equipment you have has something similar to the image below it means it is part of a set.

The top part provides the name of the name of I think the effect itself and besides it the number of equipment which is part of the set. In the image above of the set bonus attributes of the Coral Set of my sibling (Crusader) you can see that the name of the “effect” is Radiant Wave and besides it is the number of the equipment gathered over the number of equipment of the complete set (here 8/8 meaning my sibling had gathered all possible equips of the set).

Below the name of the “effect” are the parts you need to have in order to activate the full bonus attributes. Below it you can see the attributes you can unlock by gathering a specific number of parts of the set regardless which part.

On my sibling set you can see that if he gathered 2 parts out of the 8 parts of the set he can obtain additional (DMG ABS)+9. If he gathered 3 parts he will have an additional 312 MP and so on.

Note: It is not necessary to obtain every single part of the set, if you have realized from the image above you can see that you only need 6 out of 8 parts to activate all of the effects. It is really up to you if you gather a full set.

Note: Sometimes the accessories (necklace and rings) have a set bonus attribute too like on a Plunder set which gives additional offensive attributes.

5. GRADE ENHANCEMENT / RANK ENHANCEMENT / RESET EQUIP'S ATTRIBUTE

Although we still cannot increase the level of our equipment we can increase the grade (e.g from Perfect to Legendary) and the Rank ( from 6 stars to 7 stars) of our equips and also reset it attributes.

To do this all you need to do is go to Gangler pictured above and choose Craft Equipment, then choose from Grade Enhancement, Rank Enhancement, or Reset Attributes.

Each process will consume the energy you usually use for enhancing you equipment and gold, the higher your equip's rank or grade before the process the more energy you need and there is also a chance it will fail.

Thanks Sacramenti from Iteru Server for informing me about this. :D

[This post will be updated with the explanation of the effect of the “quality” of the equipment (Excellent, PerfectLegendary, etc.), effect of the equipment’s “rank” (5 stars, 6 stars, 7 stars, etc.), and things about a character’s equipment.]
